Catalytic Collective
The Catalytic Collective is an emergent space where we are modelling radical resourcing practices with our community of good ancestors through a pooled fund.
This collective resourcing vehicle aims to remove barriers experienced by grassroots groups in traditional philanthropy. We are exploring how to shift power and control over the redistribution of funds to those who know best where it is needed most: communities and movement organisers on the ground, deeply embedded on the frontlines of injustices and positive systems change.
Here’s how it works:
Step 1
Wealth holders pool their resources together in a collective, unrestricted, and non-charitable resourcing pot.
Step 2
A participatory governance structure, of movement leaders and organisers, enters a process of proposing and deciding how and where funds should be redistributed.
Step 3
A resourcing offer is shared with the newly selected Solidarity Partners (‘grantees’).
Step 4
The due diligence process is light touch. Its purpose is to get selected groups ready to receive funding, not to filter them out.
Step 5
Resourcing offers include both financial and non-financial support, are multi-year and tailored to Solidarity Partners’ needs.
We are in the first round of this resourcing vehicle and the structure in itself is continuing to evolve in response to what we’ve learnt so far.
We are not in a position to select groups for the distribution of resources and cannot process fundraising requests in relation to the resources we have pooled with our community.
